NGC 891 is an edge on unbarred spiral galaxy about 30 million light-years away in the constellation Andromeda. It has an H II nucleus. The dark center lane consists of dust clouds, similar to our galaxy. The entire photo of the Milky way shows a remarkable similarity to NGC891. M 74 (NGC 628) is a face-on spiral galaxy in the constellation Pisces. The galaxy contains two clearly-defined spiral arms and is used as an archetypal example of a Grand Design Spiral Galaxy. Two supernovae have been identified in M74: SN 2002ap and SN 2003gd. SN 2002ap has attracted considerable attention. 8 x 120 seconds ISO 3200, stacked by DeepSkyStacker and processed with Photoshop Elements 7 and NoiseNinja. 11/14/2009 in Sunnyvale CA
M74はうお座にある渦巻銀河である。渦巻きの回転軸が太陽系を 向いているフェイスオン銀河である。 銀河系と同じくらいの径10万光年の大きさを持つ。 2002年と2003年にたてつづけに超新星が発生した。 2002年のものは日本アマチュア天文家が発見したもので、 大変珍しい極超新星である。

The Horsehead Nebula (also known as Barnard 33 in bright nebula IC 434) is a dark nebula in the constellation Orion. 馬頭星雲 （ばとうせいうん）(IC434) はオリオン座にある暗黒星雲で、オリオン座の三ツ星の東端のζ星（アルニタク）の南に位置する。地球からの距離は約1500光年である。 馬の頭に似た形で有名な星雲で、この星雲は巨大な暗黒星雲の一部である。 星雲の西側の赤く光っている部分は、暗黒星雲の背景にある水素ガスが近くにあるオリオン座σ星からの紫外線を受けて電離したものである。馬頭星雲の黒い色は多量の塵を含んでいることによる。星雲から飛び出したガスは強い磁場によって細く集められている。馬頭星雲の根元近くの明るい点は生まれたばかりの若い星である。
